FROM THE BOX:
(The Big) Crimewave is the tale of struggling screenwriter Steven Penny—a self-styled loner who lives in a cramped studio above a suburban garage. His main goal in life is to be the “world’s best crime-movie screenwriter.”
Steven’s quest for stardom is narrated by Kim, his landlord’s precocious ten-year-old daughter, who is intent on helping him. At Kim’s urging. Steven hops on a bus bound for Kansas and a twilight rendezvous with Dr. Jolly – an alleged script doctor who combs the Midwest for fresh, young talent. Unfortunately for Steven, the good doctor has more than writing on his mind. Steven’s journey turns into a comic nightmare as Dr. Jolly shows him exactly what he means by a new story “twist.” Wild, playful, knockabout and dark, (The Big) Crimewave spins tour de force film technique into a devilish comment on life, death, movies and the price of success.
